Armory of the 251st Coast Artillery Anti-Aircraft, Balboa Park, San Diego, California
Shown here as the Armory of the 251st Coast Artillery Anti-Aircraft in San Diego's Balboa Park, the California State Building was constructed for the California Pacific International Exposition of 1935 on the Plaza de America. The four large murals on the front of the building illustrated California history and were designed by Orville Goldner (1906-1985). In 1937 it was occupied as the Armory in the 1935 Palisades addition to Park buildings, later became the Automotive Museum, and the area in front of it a parking lot. In 2013 the murals no longer exist.
