Buiness district of San Diego, Balboa Park with California Tower in distance, San Diego, California
This postcard view looks north across the San Diego business district to Balboa Park, with the Cabrillo Bridge (Puente del Cabrillo) on the far left above the tall buildings, and the California Tower jutting up toward the mountains between the two airplanes. The Cabrillo Bridge (Puente de Cabrillo) was built for the Panama-Callifornia International Exposition of 1915-1916, in the 21st century carrying traffic into Balboa Park on El Prado from Laurel Street. Its designers were Frank Phillips Allen, Jr. (1881-1943), and Thomas B. Hunter, with construction and opening in 1914. The California Tower was designed by Bertram Goodhue (1869-1924) for the Panama-California Exposition of 1915
