California State Building, Balboa Park, showing California Tower and California Building
The California Building in Balboa Park is shown with the California Tower. These buildings were also known as the California State Building during the Panama-California Exposition of 1915 for which the complex was built. Their front is on the California Quadrangle, where the Tower entrance opened onto the Museum of Art during the 1915 Exposition. The domed California Building houses the San Diego Museum of Man in 2013. They were designed by Bertram Goodhue (1869-1924) and known as the Palace of Science during the California Pacific International Exposition of 1935.
