Botanical Building and Lagoon, Balboa Park
The Botanical Building ("Lath House") and lagoon (Reflecting Pool, Laguna de Espejo, Laguna de las Flores, later Lily Pond). The building was designed by the architectual firm of Bertram Goodhue (1869-1924) for the Panama-California Exposition of 1915 and houses a conservatory open to the weather through its redwood lath roof. This redwood lath roofing is responsible for the alternate name for the building--"lath house." Visible under the door of the building is the footbridge that divides the north pond or lagunita from the south pond shown in the photograph.
