Lily Pond, with Botanical Building and Casa del Prado, Balboa Park, San Diego
One side of the Botanical Building ("Lath House") is on the left, with the lagoon (Reflecting Pool, Laguna de Espejo, Laguna de las Flores, later Lily Pond) at the bottom of the photograph. This building was designed by the architectual firm of Bertram Goodhue (1869-1924) for the Panama-California Exposition of 1915 and houses a conservatory open to the weaher through its redwood lath roof. In the center in the background is the Food and Beverages Building, created for the Panama-California Exposition of 1915 as the Varied Industries and Food Products Building, renamed the Palace of Foods and Beverages during the California Pacific International Exposition of 1935, and later the County Fair Building. It was demollished, and a bond issue in 1968 approved its restoration as the Casa del Prado, dedicated on the same site in 1971. Both expositions were held in San Diego's Balboa Park.
