California Tower and Building, Science and Education Building, Balboa Park, San Diego
This postcard depects the west entrance to Balboa Park through an archway of an opposite building. Shown from left to right on the north side of El Prado street are the California Tower and California Building designed by Bertram Goodhue (1869-1924) in San Diego's Balboa Park for the Panama-Callifornia International Exposition of 1915. The California Building (the top of the dome visible in the light beside the Tower) became the San Diego Museum of Man. Obscuring part of the bottom of the California tower and extending toward the arch is part of the Science and Education Building, also built for the 1915 Exposition. Iin 1935 this building was known as the Palace of Photography and in 1936 the Palace of Medical Science, then the Veterans of Foreign Wars Building (1939) before it was demolished in the 1960s.
