Path to residence of Paul de Longpre, Hollywood, California
Painter Paul de Longpre (1855-1911) built this house and gardens in 1901, designed by architect Louis Bourgeois. It was demolished around 1920. After an 1896 New York exhibit brought him fame, de Longpre, known for his paintings of flowers like those in the gardens here, moved to Hollywood in 1899. His home and garden constituted a stop on the "Balloon Excursion" run by the Los Angeles streetcar companies. de Longpre himself would lead the tours of his house and gardens, selling postcards and paintings alike. The publisher's number on the divided back of this unsent card is 4356. It was made in Germany.
