Hollywood studio of Charles Chaplin, Los Angeles, California
E. C. Kropp Co., Milwaukee, Wisconsin
This site at La Brea Avenue and De Longpre Avenue was the studio end of the block between Sunset Boulevard and De Longpre and La Brea and North Sycamore once owned by Charlie Chaplin (1889-1977). Famous for his little tramp character and his later more serious films, Chaplin developed the block in 1917 as both studio and home. The home (at the north end) and studio were sold separately, the home in 1942, after which its new owner, Safeway Stores, demolished it, and the studio in 1953 after his departure for his new home in Switzerland. The studio was later purchased by the Jim Henson Company. The publisher's number on the back is 23935. There is damage on the right side of the card.
