The Asian style Bernheimer estate was on a hill above Hollywood Boulevard (on Sycamore Avenue). The estate (1912) was reportedly built to house the Asian collection of the Bernheimer brothers, Charles and Adolph. Some of the gardens can be seen in PC-00-265, with the estate at a distance in PC-001-257. This house was a replica of a palace near Kyoto, Japan, and was sold in 1923. The estate, later called Yamashiro after the region of Japan in which the original palace was located, became a restaurant in 1959 and a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument in 2008.
