Although the copyright date on the image is 1906 (lower right corner), the postcard must have been published at a later date, because the card has a divided back, not allowed until postal regulations changed in 1907. Also, the motto on the back, "On the Road of a Thousand Wonders," refers to a Southern Pacific promotional campaign of its Coastline-Shasta Route (including San Pedro, Callifornia, steamship-ferry berth) for which there are extant brochures dated 1907 and 1908. A steamship is pictured between the Catalina mainland and Sugar Loaf Rock, with its stairs and observation point.
