C.T. Photochrom, Chicago, Illinois [Curt Teich]
This picture postcard shows a view from the southeastern hills overlooking Avalon Bay. This "Main View" in the title in the right upper corner is said to be from an unknown "Park." A steamship ferry has just left the Steamer Pier for mainland California. Toward the bottom is the "Green Pleasure Pier." On the left is the town of Avalon stretching into Avalon Canyon, with the Stage Road cutting across the hill toward the left. Avalon Bay is defined on the northwest by Sugar Loaf Point, with Sugar Loaf Rock jutting into the Pacific on the far right. The number on the back of the card is R-51316, which, according to the guide maintained by the Curt Teich Postcard Archives, translates to 1914.
