The Bay of Avalon, Santa Catalina Island, California
Baker Photo Co., Elmira, New York
The Baker Brothers were newsdealers who started publishing postcards before they formed Owen Card Publishing Company in 1915. Their early imprint with the number "60" is in the lower left corner. The amphitheater is clearly visible not far to the right of the imprint, and appearing to be above but actually to the right of the amphitheatre is the Incline Railway that led to the top of the mountain. Looking as if it's jutting into the Bay from the mountain is the Holly Hill House, built by Peter Gano in 1890. Not far from the tip of its cupola is the Green Pleasure Pier, and beyond it is the Steamer Pier, with a steamship. Defining the northwest edge of Avalon Bay is Sugar Loaf Point, with Sugar Loaf Rock on the far right. A printed message on the back invites the reader to send for "full particulars" on the island from "Bannng Co."
