Catalina Island's second aquarium was located at the foot of the steamship (steamer) pier and opened in 1906. Here it is in about the center of the photograph. Professor Charles F. Holder and David Starr Jordan, President of Stanford University, were frequent visitors who helped identify unknown specimens caught by fishermen. Since no writing except for the return address and address were allowed on the back, the message had to be written in the white space at the bottom of the picture. This marks this picture postcard as manufactured shortly after postal regulations changed on March 1, 1907 to allow any writing on the back except addresses.
