Andries Nielen
Night reflection of "Arco de Porvenir" ( Arch of the Future) during the California Pacific International Exposition of 1935. The Exposition was held in San Diego's Balboa Park. The writing on the bottom left identifies the card as the work of Andries Nielen, bearing the inscription "Cin.O.," after which is a number of the negative (here 200) and the year in which the photograph was taken ("35" or 1935). A rainbow of colored lights was reflected in a lagoon in the Plaza del Pacífico. These were designed by lighting expert H. O. Davis, who was inspired by the fantasy paintings of artist Maxfield Parrish.
