Picture postcard advertising El Cortez Sky Room, a restaurant at the top of the tallest building in San Diego at the time
E. C. Kropp Co., Milwaukee, Wisconsin
At 310 feet, the El Cortez Hotel on San Diego's Cortez Hill (then Ash Street Hill) was the tallest building from its opening in 1927 until 1963. Glass windows all around the15th-floor "Sky Room" in this building offered a 360-degree view of San Diego for patrons of this restaurant and bar. The Sky Room was built in 1940, and this linen picture postcard would have been dated before linen postcards were no longer made sometime in the 1950s. The divided image shows the outside of the hotel with its original illuminated sign from 1937, and an interior of the restaurant and bar showing some of the windows and views. The publisher's number on the back is 31635
