Defender
The Real Photo process allowed amateur and professional photographers to take "snap shots," deliver the film to a photo-finishing shop, and take away postcards ready for mailing. Kodak invented the process and dominated the market for the paper used, but other papers, including the Defender brand used for this card, were also manufactured. The stamp box usually indicated the type of paper used, and indices have been built detailing the years during which each version of postcard backing was manufactured. In this case, the Defender paper was made between 1904 and 1908. Another indication of a date in this period is the "undivided" nature of the front of the card, which was reserved by the US Post Office for the address until 1907. This explains the large white spaces around the photograph, which had to be used for any return address and message. There is no information given about the location or ownership of the home shown on this postcard.
