Picture postcard of downtown San Diego, with Bay and Point Loma in distance
Curt Teich
Prominent in this hand-tinted picture postcard is the San Diego Union (newspaper) Building, designed by Harison Albright (1866-1932) in 1908 for the newspaper owner, John D. Spreckels (1853-1926). The address of this now demolished building is given as "the southwest corner of Third and D . . . ," according to the San Diego Historical Society. Given that the entrance to the building appears to be facing the street on the left, this would seem to be Broadway, making the street in the foreground Third Avenue and the next street starting in about the middle of the card on the left Second Avenue. In the background is San Diego Bay with ships, and on the horizon from left to right (labelled) is Point Loma. This and PC-000-707 are the same but with slight differences in tinting and the printing on the back of the card.
