This picture postcard of Tom Ham's Lighthouse (established 1971) appears much the same as photographs of it in 2013, although it has been remodeled. According to the restaurant Web site, Ham's first experience in San Diego with running a restaurant was his "rescue" of the Bali Hai (included on the map on the back)i starting in 1955. Tom Ham (1919-1973) was an accountant whose study of California history led him to incorporate a Coast Guard beacon into the design that as of 2012 was still used by the Coast Guard (Beacon #9). The property is at the end of Harbor "Island" (a long narrow peninsula jutting into San Diego Bay).
