A stag and two does of barasingha deer from India appear to pose in front of a fence and barn at the San Diego Zoo
The picture portion of this color picture postcard depicts three barasingha deer, two does and one stag in the middle. One doe is on profile, turning to look at the viewer, and the other two face forward. Behind them are what appear to be animal houses and fencing, as well as trees. The deer appear to be standing on level, grassy ground. The inscription at the top of the postcard placies the animals at the "Zoological Garden of San Diego." The San Diego Zoo is in Balboa Park, San Diego, California. The barasingha deer is mentioned in Rudyard Kipling's Second Jungle Book as a "barasingh." In 2013 the barasingha is found in India and Nepal, extinct in Pakistan and Bangladesh, and is listed as "vulnerable" by the IUCN Red List (International Union for Conservation of Nature). The publisher operated from 1932 to the 1970s.
