El Prado Cactus Garden and Palace of Education, Balboa Park, San Diego, California
The El Prado Cactus Garden in San Diego's Balboa Park was developed under the direction of Kate Sessions (1857-1940) for the California Pacific International Exposition of 1935. Aiding Sessions was Chauncey I. Jerabek, gardener at the Scripps Ranch, who helped to design and plant this garden and the aloe and agave garden west of the Palace of Natural History. This garden was located west of the Palace of Education, shown in the background. The Palace of Education was the New Mexico State Building, built for the Panama-California Exposition of 1915, and it survives as the Balboa Park Club.
