Albertype Co., Brooklyn, New York
A steamship ferry departs Avalon Bay for the California mainland. Toward the right and almost behind the tree on the right, is Sugar Loaf Casino, built in 1920 between the island and Sugar Loaf Rock, which defines the northwestern edge of Avalon Bay. The Casino was replaced in 1929, with the destruction of Sugar Loaf Rock. The back is divided and gives the information that the postcard was "hand-colored." The Old Stage Road, with stagecoaches now replaced by automobiles, cuts across the mountain from the left to the middle of the picture.
