"Unfortunately the Army, like the birds, is showing signs of restlessness and a desire to be on the wing, so I suppose that in a shorter or longer time you will be hearing from me at some new address," Jones writes. His wife is growing tired of her low-paying job, but they fear a post-war "slump." He recounts an evening spent playing music "with the record-collector in Chapel Hill."
