July 16, 1888 J.C. Bailey, Esq.,
Coronado, Calif.,

Dear Sir:-- It is with regret that I have to report your son, Rob't Bailey, as one of four boys who destroyed nearly 300 watermelons on our beach last week. The boys plugged the melons regardless of size or shape, and as we were counting on them for our hotel the loss is hardly calculable. I would like to see you on this matter, because I think the damage should be borne by the boys who did it. Your son accompanied by three other boys the names of whom are known.

Yours truly,
E.S. Babcock
