Scherr was a member of the Carlsbad School Board, having moved to Carlsbad 10-1/2 years ago shortly after her youngest daughter was born. Her husband was a physician and before she was married she was a high-school teacher, teaching part time at MiraCosta College when she moved to San Diego. She became active in the Family Counselling Service, her first introduction to civic activity. Carlsbad Parks and Recreation Commission, serving as chairman for two of the five years. She ran for the school board to fill an empty position and was up for election again at the time of this interview. She felt that the field of education was "rapidly changing." She lists the publications which she receives as part of her school board position. Scherr was interviewed at the City Library.
