Interview with Lucille Roth

 

 

 

 

Roth was a native Californian, born in Los Angeles, who worked as an x-ray technician and has held several types of jobs. Because of her husband's interest, she became active in politics and then became the secretary of the County Democratic Council, an elected job (by clubs) as a volunteer. She has a teaching certificate from San Diego State. The unidentified interviewer mentions a previous tape. She wrote two musical revues for two years in a row to raise funds in San Diego, "Red, White, and Birch." She was a legislative secretary for an assemblyman, taking "verbal abuse from cranks," including obscenities, as well as receiving "poison-pen letters." After this experience she got out of politics due to "too much pressure" and actions such as taking money from both sides of an issue. Also, she was not getting any benefits from the State of California, and at the end of the assemblyman's term she was out of a job.
