Government breakwater, San Pedro, California

The official Los Angeles Harbor breakwater was sometimes called the "government breakwater" to distinguish it from the various breakwaters built over the years to keep the channel open. This longest breakwater was not complete until 1912, after which the lighthouse was built at the ocean end. The publisher's number 3239 is on the back. The dividing line on the back is only for a return address in the left panel, a feature that appears to have been used only in the two years surrounding the change in postal regulations that allowed messages on the same side as the address.
