Sunset Trail and palisades, Santa Monica, California
The Sunset Trail was the forerunner of the California Incline connecting Ocean Avenue at California in Santa Monica with California Highway (State Route) 1, the Pacific Coast Highway. Beginning in 1896 as the pedestrian trail shown here, with a sign saying "to Palisades Beach Road," it was widened into an automobile road along the palisades. The publisher's number 307 precedes the title at the top right. The same image and number were later used on a postcard printed with a white border. The publisher was in business from 1914-1934.
