A man with a white beard, light-colored hat, wearing a watch chain, narrow bow tie and suit stands in a flower bed in front of a lawn. More flowers, along with palm trees are behind him, with a path on the left. Albert K. Smiley was one of a family of philanthropists who moved to Redlands in the late 19th century and donated to a number of community causes, including the A. K. Smiley Public Library. The family lived in an area of Redlands named after them. The publisher's number H 89 is on the divided back next to the phrase "On the Road of a thousand wonders," a railroad-promotion motto.
