Methodist Epsicopal Church, Redlands, California
Mitchell, Edward H.
This sepia-tone card shows a Mission Revival corner building with Dutch gables and a tall square belltower with a cupola, and another tower on the left. This was the First Methodist Episcopal (M.E.) Church in Redlands, matching a photograph dated 1900 in the Califiornia Historical Society Collection at the University of Southern California. The Methodist Episcopal church was the largest Protestant denomination in the United States in the 19th century, merging with other Methodist churches twice to form the United Methodist Church. The rose-and-dagger dividing line characteristic of E. H. Mitchell is on the back with the publisher's name inside, a company owned by Mitchell. The publisher was only in business from 1907-1915.
