Snow is piled so high on the left of the road that it is hard to see the retailers on the left. Prominent on that side of the street are signs for Texaco (gasoline station) with the Texaco logo T in a star, Baxter's, "Cabins," and "Old 'Forty-Nine Trading Post" that has a United States Post Office inside. Scratched onto the developing print, looking white, are the words "Baxters camp US 40 Highway Calif. S6A." Baxter's Hotel is on the left almost entirely obscured by snow, as can be seen in another photographic post card apparently taken in the same time period.
