In the center of this postcard a "queer formation of granite, lighter in color than the mountain, [which] may be seen for miles..." is visible. This formation is thought to resemble an angel, and thus is locally referred to as the Angel of (or on) Mount San Jacinto. The red roofs in the foreground may be one of the desert resorts that take advantage of naturally occuring hot springs on the northern side of San Jacinto Valley.
