The Ramona Pageant Play, seen here as presented at a Spanish-style hacienda with steps leading down to a path past a large audience, was inspired by Helen Hunt Jackson's novel Ramona (1884). Set in Southern California after the Mexican-American war, the novel was hugely popular, spawning tourist sites and postcards, and had a town and a hotel named after its heroine. The pageants began in 1923 and continued in the Ramona Bowl Amphitheatre. The back of the card has a promotional message and is divided.
