In this picture, looking south, railroad lines run north along the shore onto Wharf Number Three, jutting into the Pacific Ocean. The hotel sits inland on the horizon on the left, far enough away from the sea to escape the ravages of the storms of 1914 and 1915. The viewpoint is very likely from Wharf Number Two to the north. The date is handwritten on the divided back.
