Gathering the feathers, Cawston Ostrich Farm, California
The Van Ornum Colorprint Co., Los Angeles, California
Although Cawston's Ostrich Farm raised birds to sell their feathers, they also had a tourist business partially promoted through streetcar lines that ran to the farm. Ostriches pulled carts and carriages, and there were tours, clothing, and souvenirs for sale, as well as fees for watching them being clipped or fed. The publisher's number on the divided back is B 46. The slogan "On the Road of a Thousand Wonders" on the back suggests that the card was part of a promotion of The Coast Line-Shasta Route of the Southern Pacific Railroad. The contributor was open for business from 1908-1921.
