Los Angeles Ostrich Farm
The Van Ornum Colorprint Co., Los Angeles, California
Ostrich farms raised birds to sell their feathers (plumes), meat and leather, but they also promoted tourism. There was a race track, gift shop, and there were tours and fees to watch feeding and plume clipping. This card could represent any one of the 10 farms in the Los Angeles area by 1910, before ostrich plumes went out of fashion. The publisher's number on the divided back is A 21. Also on the back is the slogan "On the Road of a Thousand Wonders," suggesting that the card was part of a promotion of The Coast Line-Shasta Route of the Southern Pacific Railroad. Given the divided back and the publisher's closing date, the range of this card is 1907-1918.
