The garden area, with lawn in the background, is below street level (as seen on the far right at the horizon). The hotel (out of frame to the south of the garden) was originally the Bixby Hotel but was renamed in 1906 and opened in 1908. It was closed in 1932 after the stock-market crash, and it was demolished after the 1933 Long Beach earthquake. The publisher's number has been obliterated by damage to the card.
