Painter Paul de Longpre (1855-1911) is shown in his Hollywood home built in 1901, designed by architect Louis Bourgeois. The house was demolished around 1920. After an 1896 New York exhibit brought him fame, de Longpre, known for his paintings of flowers like those behind him, moved to Hollywood in 1899. His home and garden constituted a stop on the Balloon Excursion run by the Los Angeles streetcar companies. de Longpre himself would lead the tours of his house and gardens, selling postcards and paintings alike. The publisher's number on the back is 3553. The divided back of this unsent card, made in Germany, allows only a return address in what later became a message panel.
