My dear Mr Douglass:-
Mr Newlin has handed me your letter of the third inst., and I want to thank you very much for the good feeling expressed therein. Mr and Mrs Newton arrived last evening, and told me they met Mrs Geo. Pullman and Mrs Clark at Santa Barbara. They know Mrs Clark very well, and advised them to come here. Mr Newton thinks they will not be satisfied nor can they get exactly the accommodations they would like at Santa Barbara, and is afraid they will go North.
Have today sent our agent down to see Mrs Pullman, to learn if she intends to leave Santa Barbara and whether we can get the party to come here. If you know them well enough to speak to them, would it be asking too much of a favor of you to explain to them the construction of our house? It struck me they might be such a party as would like one of our parlors with rooms all around, and use one of our private dining rooms, such as Mr Sturges' party used last Winter.

Yours truly,
E. S. Babcock Jr.
