K.H. Wade Esq,
Los Angeles.

Dear Sir,
We have tried three different times to lay a floor in the main office of our hotel, but owing to the presence of steam in the pipes underneath the floor the cement dries too quickly to set well and each attempt has been a failure. We want now while the house is running light to make another attempt. We can run our elevator with water pressure direct from the mains, but we cannot run our kitchen without steam and hot water. To reach the kitchen with steam we have to heat up the whole system of pipes.
We would like to borrow from you the small economical boiler that you have lying on your wharf on the Ferry Slip, for a week or two to use in making hot water for the kitchen? We will use wood in it and return it in as good order as we receive it. We do not want over 15 lbs of steam for cooking purposes.
We cannot get into our basement any boiler of our own, It will be a great accommodation for us to have this boiler, how soon can we borrow it for this purpose?

Yours truly,
E. S. Babcock
