G. B. Warren, Esq.,
San Francisco, Calif.,

My dear Mr Warren,
I was glad to receive your favor of the 6th inst., and hope you will come down with your wife at the earliest possible moment.
If possible, I want to make an arrangement with you to become my assistant in the management of the hotel, with the view of you taking charge of it in the future when I am satisfied that you can handle it as I think you can.
Mr Cook has been absolute in power, employing and discharging all help, I am confident you will here have the opportunity you wish.
The steward, who is also in charge of the rear, is a man who was in our employ a year before I took him into the hotel. He is thorough, honest and very industrious, and a person that can be controlled easily.
I also want the Chef, Merganthaler, that you know, and would like to have him take hold by the first of April. Wish on receipt of this you would telegraph me when you can come down, [unknown] also what the Chef will do, as the present Chef wishes to leave the first and I have so many offers from other Chefs from whom I do not want to select if I can get the one you mention.
