Benham Company, Los Angeles, California
In this forest landscape a small rocky dam divides a mountain stream. Matilija Hot Springs was a spa in the Los Padres National Forest near California State Route 33, discovered and developed in the late 19th century but later closed. Given the Teich number A-16515 at the bottom of the dividing line and the Panama-California Exposition (San Diego) seal on the back, the card would have been manufactured between 1909 and 1910, when planning began for the exposition. On the back, near the Benham Company logo, is also the railroad-promotion motto: "On the Road of a Thousand Wonders."
