Union Oil Company of California, Los Angeles, California
"Malibu Encinal" would refer to the Encinal Bluffs in Malibu, where large estates cling to the hills. This would fit the description on the back, which describes it as "midway between Santa Monica and Oxnard." The printed paragraph goes on to say that the view "is typical of the coastline in Southern California. Pictured here is but one of many beautiful homes in the beach colony, many of which are owned by motion picture stars." On the right there is a garden party among flowering bushes, looking down on another residence and beyond it to the beach and Pacific Ocean on the left. This is a card commemorating the 50th anniversary of Union Oil, a company formed of the union of several small petroleum producers. Number 41 in the series for the centennial year, the card is one of the "Natural Color Scenes of the West," according to the divided back. Next to the anniversary logo is the typical phrase "See the west with 76 [logo] gasoline."
