Sugar beets are piled up outside the Pacific Beet Sugar Factory showing large smokestacks on the right. Railroad cars are lined up next to the factory. Its main investors, the Oxnard brothers, lent their family name to the city, establishing the factory in 1897. By 1899 the name had changed to the American Beet Sugar Factory, and in 1934 there was another name change to the American Crystal Sugar Company. The title on the divided back continues: "The making of sugar from beets is one of the principal industries of California, and beet culture is very profitable." The number 1001 precedes the title. Both the publisher's and the contributor's logos are on the back as well.
