Sterling's residence, Redlands, California

The Sterling villa was constructed in 1897 in the Italian style as designed by D. H. Donald for magnate E. C. Sterling. Sterling owned all the 19th-century patents for pressed brick manufacture in the United States. Here we see in color the portals at the driveway to the 7-bedroom mansion in the distance, framed by scrollwork between the front gates. The date "5/18/23" is handwritten at the top of the dividing line on the back. Also on the back are the publisher's number H 38 and the phrase "On the Road of a Thousand Wonders," a railroad promotion motto.
