The Stewart Hotel, San Bernardino, California

Horse-drawn vehicles and motor cars are in front of this corner hotel with the entrance to Citizens' Bank on the street level at Third and E Streets (later in the San Bernardino Civic Plaza). This would have been the rebuilt hotel after a fire in 1892 and before the 1913 removal of the domed turret shown here. The turret was replaced by a fourth floor with 40 new rooms and a ship's wheel ornament. When the hotel burned again in 1935, the bank bought the building, which became the Citizens' Bank Building. The publisher's number is on the right side of the divided back, 4298, along with the phrase "Made in Germany."
