Castle Rock, the Boulevard, and Potter Hotel, Santa Barbara, California
A promotional sentence is on the divided back: "Santa Barbara, on the road of a thousand wonders, is naturally beautiful, lying between the broad beach at the water edge and the Santa Ynez mountains; it has been helped by all that wealth and art and leisure could offer." The phrase "on the road of a thousand wonders" was a railroad promotional motto. On the far left is the beach at the harbor, beside it palm trees lining Cabrillo Boulevard. In the distance next to the leftmost palm tree the Hotel Potter stands against distant mountains. Castle Rock is on the far left center past the Pleasure Pier leading from the bathhouse at the end of the road. It was dynamited when Cabrillo Boulevard was extended through the hill seen here on the horizon at left. The publisher's number 5275 is also on the back next to the phrase "Made in Germany." In the stampbox upside down is another number, 866. Given the divided back and the end of the publisher's operations, the date of this card has to be between 1907 and 1915.
