The title continues on the back: "The Mecca of all who would escape the chill of winter, 350 days of sunshine. Bathing all the year." "Mecca" is a metaphor for an obligatory visit such as the popularly known religious pilgrimage to Mecca. "Bathing" was the word for swimming in the ocean, in this case the Pacific. The scene here is of crowds at the bathhouse and plaza, with Stearns Wharf in the distance to the east on the right. Just visible on the far right near the bottom are steps to the "Pleasure Pier." The Potter Hotel can be seen in the distance just above the center on the far left. The Santa Ynez Mountains are in the distance. The Teich number at the top of the dividing line on the back is A-66752, from which the date was derived.
