Hotel Potter at night, Santa Barbara, California
The hotel is lit up under a full moon, with a flowered walkway leading to it from the foreground. On the right are distant mountains. The Potter, as it was known, opened in 1903 as a year-round hotel, rather than seasonal. It was sold in 1919, becoming the Belvedere, then sold once again to become the Ambassador. In 1921 the hotel burned to the ground and was not rebuilt. The Ambassador Park on West Cabrillo Boulevard is the site of the former entrance. The back carries the notation that the card was made in Germany, the publisher's number M 60, and the promotional phrase "On the Road of a Thousand Wonders," possibly indicating that the hotel was part of a railroad promotion.
