This is a "Cape Cod style" lighthouse, with a tower atop the roof of a one-story cottage, built in 1856. In front stands a woman wearing red and white, under a trellis and behind a fence covered in blossoms. Behind her is the Pacific Ocean to the horizon. This was the Santa Barbara Lighthouse, and the woman was Julia Williams, who kept the station from 1865 until 1905, when she fell and broke her hip. On the divided back, the publisher's number is 3682, and a number upside down in the stampbox s 43444, perhaps belonging to the printer in Germany.
