Under the pergola in the courtyard is a cement corner piece with a niche and pedestal on which stands a statue of a monk holding a cross. Under the pedestal is a bell. Given the descriptive paragraph on the back referring to St. Francis as the "Patron Saint of the Mission Inn" as well as "the founder of the Order of Franciscan Priests from Spain who built the Missions of California," this would be a statue of the saint. The Teich number A-1331 from which the date was derived is in the lower right corner. The publisher's number G 39 and their logo are on the divided back, along with the phrase "On the Road of a Thousand Wonders." This slogan may indicate that the card was part of a railroad promotion.
